How to Become Involved in Your Lake Association
PLA is comprised of a diverse group of people with a common bond – the Pelican Lakes. Because we have a collective interest in something we all treasure, there is a place at PLA for everyone.
We are looking for volunteers to become involved with the lake association. We have opportunites from a few hours to a position on the board.
Be aware of local issues: Attend city or county meetings to become aware of local issues. Subscribe to the Echo or Brainerd Dispatch.
Attend the Annual Meeting: held each summer
Make sure your water service professional has attended an Invasive Species Education Seminar before they enter Pelican Lake: Check the list of trained professionals at: http://www.minnesotawaters.org/content/aquatic-invasive-species-training
Educate Boaters at Public Accesses: Because of the threat to Pelican Lake from Invasive Species, the PLA has initiated a program of educating boaters at the public accesses as to what they can do to prevent the spread of invasive species. We need volunteers who are willing to spend one to two hours per week helping us with this critical task. For more information or to signup contact David Slipy at dslipy@hotmail.com or 218-562-5393. We all need to help prevent Pelican Lake from becoming infested!!!!
Become a beach captain: Visit your neighbors once each summer to make them aware of the lake association and ensure we have accurate addresses for our mailing list so that they can receive our newsletters. For more information contact Kelly Anderson at kanderson3@comcast.net.
Write an article for the newspaper or newsletter: Do you have writing skills or a story to share? Contact Jodi Eberhardt at jodi.eberhardt@gmail.com
Become a board or committee member: We are looking for members willing to become involved for a couple of years – either as a member of the board or on a special committee.
Nominating Committee: Join a short-term, temporary committee whose primary purpose is to identify individuals with an interest in Pelican Lakes that may be strong candidates for joining the PLA Board. Much of the work could be done via email or phone. The goal is to find individuals with time and energy to take an active role on our board. We need to continuously bring in fresh faces to keep the organization moving forward over the next several years. If you're willing to make a couple of calls on our behalf this spring, contact Joan Mondale at jmondale@mondale.biz.
